Greenwood

The relatively long drive to Greenwood is always worth it as the course is in great shape and wasn’t too busy considering it’s the high season. Paul Smith had a good day winning the A Flight by four shots and picking up a near pin prize to boot and Gerry Cooney beat Gary Warburton by a shot to nick the runner up spot. Jack Robertson shot a two under to win the B Flight ahead of Reg Smart who won two near pin prizes as well with Mike Corner taking third place with a nett 76.

Crystal Bay

Another dodgy looking day weatherwise when we set off but all turned out well and we had a rain free found. The course was more difficult than usual with long grass on the fairways and truly punishing rough due to the recent rains. Even without green fee vouchers the course offers good value for money at a little over 1000 Baht per round. The cut was set at handicap 14 and visiting Aussie “Scotty” Eaton who’s been working on his game at home, bringing his handicap down to three, won the A Flight with a two under par score. Gerry Cooney was runner up a shot behind and Gordon Melia edged out Tom Wilson on a count back to take third place. In the B Flight Roger Privett did enough to win with a level par round, Eddie Martin was second a shot behind and “Scotty’s” mate Andrew took third place on a count back from Paul Edgar.

Results:

A Flight:

1st “Scotty” Eaton (hcp 3) nett 70

2nd Gerry Cooney (hcp 11) nett 71

Near Pin Winners – Geoff Parker, Mark West, PJ and “Scotty”

Wednesday 7th October 2009

Emerald

We teed off in the middle of a light drizzle which continued on and off during the round but didn’t affect a fine day’s golf! The course was in pretty good condition although the grass on the fairways was a little longer than we would have preferred.

So, playing Stableford format and with the temperature very suitable for a round of golf the Bunker Boy’s were off. Mashi, with 38 points took the winners podium with Terry Hamilton getting in the frame for the first time this season taking second place. Gordon Melia was in the money again coming in third and Frank Dante finished fourth a point behind.

Results:

1st Mashi Kaneta (hcp 12) 38 points

2nd Terry Hamilton (hcp 14) 36 points

3rd Gordon Melia (hcp 14) 34 points

4th Frank Dante (hcp 13) 33 points

Near Pin Winners – Mashi, Terry Hamilton, Gene Plueger and Aussie “Ferdy”.

Monday 5th October 2009

Bang Pra

We arrived at the course in the middle of a torrential downpour but 30 minutes later the rain stopped, the skies cleared and away we went.

After 3 holes it was hard to believe it had ever rained and we completed the round in near perfect conditions. Bang Pra since the recent renovations offers one of the best value for money venues in the area and will be one of the first fixtures on the Bunker’s schedule.

Geoff Parker made the most of the conditions winning with a very handy four under par, Gordon Melia had a level par round to come in second while Paul Smith playing off handicap 4 had a very good nett 73 and Mashi snuck into fourth place with a two over par round.

Results:

1st Geoff Parker (hcp 17) nett 68

2nd Gordon Melia (hcp 14) nett 72

Obtaining vouchers from Pattaya Sports Club makes playing at Crystal Bay a bargain these days and the large turn out shows just how popular the voucher system is.

There were two flights today and the cut was set at handicap 13.

Sunny Khanna found some form on his last day of golf before returning home, Sunny won the A Flight with a two under par round just one shot better than Tony Robbins and Paul Smith who both finished one under.

Tony who’s been playing some great golf lately, beat Paul on a count back to take the runner up spot.

In the B Flight Eddie Martin had a level par round which was enough to take the honours ahead of Alex Kilcoyne and P.J. was surprised to find his nett 79 was good enough to take third place.

William and Tony were at the top of the leaderboard again today. Playing Stableford it was William who came out on top courtesy of a count back and a count back decided the minor placings too.

Friday 12th December 2008

Emerald

Some of the regulars played the monthly Medal competition with the Pattaya Sports Club at the Royal Thai Navy course today, but the rest of the Bunker Boys played a Stableford round at The Emerald course.

Tony Robbins had the best round of the day winning by three points with Frank Nellison claiming runner-up spot.

Three players finished with 33 points and on a count back third place went to PJ and fourth place went to Colin Stokes. Bernie Stevens being the unlucky one to be left empty handed after the worst back nine of the three.

The golfer’s who played at the Royal Thai Navy course with the PSC had a little success Jack Robertson winning the C Flight and Gordon Melia scoring a couple of birdie two’s on the par three’s.

Results:

1st Tony Robbins (hcp 12) 39 points
2nd Frank Nellison (hcp 23) 36 points
3rd PJ Redmond (hcp 21) 33 points
4th Colin Stokes (hcp 26) 33 points.

Greenwood

Playing Greenwood on a holiday so soon after the John Preddy Memorial Tournament was held there might not have been a good idea. However, for those who showed up we decided to play a Stableford round and there were some good scores too with a count back needed to find the winner and third place.

Paul Smith won the count back to win beating Jan Van Spellen into second place both scoring 39 points.

Brian Maddox beat Mashi Kaneta and Gordon Melia to steal third place, all of them scoring 37 points.

Only three near pin prizes were won today hole C3 proving too difficult for anyone to hit.

Results:

1st Paul Smith (hcp 4) 39 points
2nd Jan Van Spellen (hcp 22) 39 points
3rd Brian Maddox (hcp 22) 37 points

Near pin winners – Kevin Dunne, Larry Simpson and Paul Smith.

Plutaluang Navy Course

Plutaluang (Royal Thai Navy Golf Course)

The Bunker Boy’s hadn’t played at the Royal Thai Navy Golf Course for a while so it made a pleasant change to be back there.

Annual Champion Gerry Cooney got back into the groove beating Mashi on a count back for a change (Gerry must have lost the most count backs this year at The Bunker!).

Tony Scambler came in third one point further behind in the A Flight.

The cut was set at handicap 14 so Gordon found himself in the B Flight and he duly won with a three under par net 69. This was six shots ahead of Jan Van Spellen who’s got back into the swing of things pretty quickly since he has only just returned to Thailand after a year away. Jack Robertson was a surprised third place with a paltry net 81!

Results

A Flight:
1st Gerry Cooney (hcp 10) nett 72
2nd Mashi Kaneta (hcp 12) nett 72
3rd Tony Scambler (hcp 6) nett 71

B Flight:
2nd Jan Van Spellen (hcp 22) nett 75
3rd Jack Robertson (hcp 23) nett 81

Near pin winners – Gerry Cooney, Gordon Melia and Mashi won the other two.
