Pleasant Valley
Our first visit to this course since the opening of the new clubhouse and the new layout. Nicknamed by some locals as Unpleasant Valley in the past, we were in for a pleasant surprise. The new clubhouse provides excellent facilities, the staff were polite and welcoming, and they even provided a stool so Reg could reach the upper lockers! The course has improved significantly since our last visit and now provides excellent value for money over the high season using to the PSC discount cards, thanks Perry.
Today was crunch time for the 4 leading contenders in the November Golfer of the Month, with all 4 being separated by just a couple of points (Mashi, Gordon Melia, Geoff Parker and Gerry Cooney), and the 4 wannabees were grouped together for the final shootout. After a tense struggle, Geoff and Mashi fell away and it all came down to the 18th hole with Gerry and Gordon level on points. Gordon duly won the last by 1 point, holding his nerve to sink the last putt after missing a couple of shorter ones earlier. Well done “Chopper” November’s Golfer of the Month, maybe you’ve finally got rid of that nickname. Gordon’s 37 points was enough to win the B Flight ahead of Barry Trowell and Eddie Martin. Tony Scambler won the A Flight with 39 points with Keith Smithson getting runner up spot and Gerry Cooney a close third.
Results:
A Flight:
1st Tony Scambler (hcp 7) 39 points
2nd Keith Smithson (hcp 0) 37 points
3rd Gerry Cooney (hcp 12) 36 points
B Flight:
1st Gordon Melia (hcp 15) 37 points
2ndBarry Trowell (hcp 22) 32 points
3rd Eddie Martin (hcp 15) 31 points
Near Pin Winners – Only three par 3’s got hit, Mike Lloyd won one and Keith Smithson hit the other two.
