Mountain Shadow

Always a difficult couse but made harder today with a stiff breeze. The greens seemed particularly difficult after the slow greens at Rayong CC and there were plenty of 3 putts (and more) going on. The course was quiet and the 3 ball in the front went round in near record time. Alan Sullivan and Colin Greig warmed up nicely for the John Preddy Memorial Tournament on Monday by winning the A and B Flights respectively, both with 35 Stableford points. Newcomer Chris Cox took the runner up place in the A Flight and Keith Smithson claimed third place beating Gerry Cooney on a count back. In the B Flight Heath Norris came second and Jo Vanderveggen beat Mike Corner on a count back to take the third place.

Results:

A Flight:

1st Alan Sullivan                      (hcp 13) 35 points

2nd Chris Cox                            (hcp 10) 34 points

3rd Keith Smithson                  (hcp 0) 32 points

B Flight:

1st Colin Greig                             (hcp 14) 35 points

2nd Heath Norris                       (hcp 28) 32 points

3rd Joe Vandervegen               (hcp 19) 29 points

Rayong CC

This was our second visit in recent months and the course improves each time. Friendly helpful staff and a green fee of 380 Baht, does it get any better? The course was quiet and all our groups were able to play their round at their own pace. The only criticism would be the slow greens but those will improve in the future. The cut was set at handicap 14 and, playing Stableford format, Mike Lloyd made a successful return to Thailand winning the A Flight in his first game back. Tony Robbins took the runner up spot and Gerry Cooney claimed third place a point behind. William Macey was surprised to find himself in the B Flight but it didn’t affect him as he came into the clubhouse with a big smile on his face and 42 points tucked under his belt to easily win by five points. Second place went to Steve Durey and Dave Day took third place a point further back.

Results:

A Flight:

1st Mike Lloyd                            (hcp 12) 36 points

2nd Tony Robbins                    (hcp 11) 34 points

3rd Gerry Cooney                    (hcp 12) 33 points

B Flight:

1st William Macey                   (hcp 15) 42 points

2nd Steve Durey                       (hcp 20) 37 points

3rd David Day                           (hcp 17) 36 points

Near Pin Winners – Geoff Cox, Gregg Berry, Keith Smithson and Jerry Wasselenkoff.

A 10 minute shower of rain during the game didn’t dampen the spirits of the Bunker Boy’s especially JJ Harney. Count backs dictated the places today, PJ edged out Mashi to claim fourth place, Colin Greig had a better back nine than Jack Gayer to take the runner up spot, but there was a clear winner, JJ winning by two points.

Results:

1st JJ Harney                            (hcp 11) 36 points

2nd Colin Greig                        (hcp 14) 34 points

3rd Jack Gayer                         (hcp 19) 34 points

4th PJ Redmond                      (hcp 18) 32 points

Near pin winners –  Tony Robbins, Lee Butler, Colin Greig and Peter Habgood.
